Moki Dugway

  
South of Natural Bridges Utah Hwy 261 runs south. 

A modern paved highway, that you could easily travel at 70 mph on.

That is, until it reaches this cliff...

 

  
1000 feet below (straight down) the highway resumes.
  

To get down there you have to crawl down a steep and narrow switchbacking gravel road with no guardrail, cut into the side of the cliff.

This is the Moki Dugway.

Once you're down, the modern highway resumes.

You're in trouble if you're too scared to drive down the steep switch-backing road. It's a looonnngg detour around!

 

  
Below is the Valley of the Gods.

Just south of here is Monument Valley.
