Million Dollar Highway
(US Hwy 550)
This highway in southwest
Colorado runs between Montrose and Durango.
It runs through spectacular scenery, particularly
between Ouray and Durango.
It's not exactly clear why
it's called the "Million Dollar Highway", except possibly
because of the scenery. There's mining in the area too, so the
name may refer to the value of the mines.
